SMC

Explanation

BMC – SMC

Glass fiber reinforced polyesters (GRP) are a very good alternative to their equivalents such as metal, plastic and wood with the many advantages and superior features they offer. Parts that can be produced with the pressure molding method are widely used in production due to their features such as being suitable for mass production, design flexibility and easy production of parts with complex shapes, and having high surface quality.

The two main materials used in the pressure molding method are BMC (Bulk Molding Compound) and SMC (Sheet Molding Compound) pastes.

While the paste mixture prepared in mixers at certain rates moves on the conveyor belt line, glass fibers of certain lengths are chopped and sprinkled on it and the paste mixture is added again. This material in the form of a pestle obtained by passing through the compression rollers is kept under suitable conditions and its consistency is ensured. In some special applications, different reinforcement materials such as carbon and boron fiber are used as reinforcement materials and resins such as vinyl ester and epoxy are used as resin materials.
